National 3 Peaks Challenge · 1 June 2013
The Oxford Children's Hospital was built thanks to the generosity of people like you. Every year up 65,000 children are treated here and your support means that they can provide the very latest medical equipment and best possible facilities for the babies, children and teenagers – going beyond the NHS standard.
Everything at the hospital is designed around the needs of children with fantastic facilities which really help those going through such difficult times.
Gifts to the Children's Hospital support facilities and equipment to treat, distract and calm young patients. Whether being treated in the Children's Hospital, the Neonatal areas, Children's Ward at the Horton, the Cancer Centre – wherever young patients are being looked after – your donation will make a difference.
What is the 3 Peaks Challenge?
To climb the highest mountain peaks in England, Scotland & Wales within 24hours, including travelling between them.
The highest of the three mountains is Ben Nevis in Scotland with an elevation of 1344m above sea level. Most people start the challenge at Ben Nevis purely because (for most) it is the furthest from home and it is the highest climb. Due to it’s height and location, ‘the ben’ is rarely without snow on it’s summit plateau.
Second in the challenge is Scafell Pike in the Lake District. At 978m this is the lowest summit of the three, however, with it’s relentless and steep ascent, it is arguably the hardest of all. It is also considered the hardest to navigate in poor weather conditions.
Finally, Snowdon in Wales, with an elevation of 1085m. Snowdon has a few different route options, most of which share the same final steep ascent to the summit.
