Story

Well, here goes....I signed up to the London Marathon (April 2012) to support my loving and slightly running obsessed wife. Thinking that with only 35,000 places and God knows how many applicants that my chances were pretty slim and I'd be safe, consoling her over a beer or two that it just wasn't going to be our year. For once, I was speechless when that letter hit the doormat and we were in!!! Dreams of beer, wine and Welsh whisky faded as training plans, running tights (don't ask!!!) and energy drinks took their place and this was even before I got to the front door.

But, I've persevered. There's now just four months to go and I've been training for a while, hoping that the body will hold up for 26miles and 465 yards and lets be honest if it can withstand a weekend in Edinburgh at a Wales-Scotland match, it has a fair chance.

And so to the charity, it's pointless taking part in such an event if you aren't going to raise some money for a good cause and I'd really like to raise money for a charity that's close to my heart because of my own personal experiences. If you're a parent, you can relate to Tommy's, the "let's talk baby" charity. Many couples have to face the unanswered questions of why pregnancies don't result in birth of a child, the number is as high as one in four pregnancies. The answer of 'you can try again' from a well meaning Doctor or Nurse sometimes isn't enough because it doesn't answer the question of 'why us?'.

Tommy's is giving hope to those parents who have lost children through their crucial research and hands on work within hospitals. Any money that is raised, knowing that just a few pounds will help one more family not go through what myself and friends have experienced will make running my marathon an even greater and fulfilling experience so please dig deep and donate now.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, you can check out the great work done by Tommy's at www.tommys.org

You can also follow my attempts at training through my twitter feed

@Greyo1970

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
