Phils 40th ... No pressies for the 'Man who has Enough'!
A number of very generously hearted friends have asked me what Phil might like for a birthday present. He's an extremely difficult man to do this for (i should know !)....but he has suggested he'd actually prefer it if you feel inclined to buy him a pressy to re-direct funds towards a more deserving cause (which he clearly isn't!).Broadway www.broadwaylondon.org. is a London homeless charity which he has been involved with for quite a while and we thought that, given the temperature outside at this time of year, homelessness would seem to be an apt cause to support!! There are just over 3,000 people in London who don't have a home or even a roof over their heads at night.
Broadway provide a range of services to meet the mental, physical and social needs of homeless people. Its not just about housing - its about trying to give people the skills to turn their lives around, find a job and keep a home.
Aside from the obvious link for Phil with property and finding people homes, one of the things he particularly likes about this organisation is that 98% of proceeds generated are spent directly on core activities, only 1% goes towards fundraising and 1% towards administration. I imagine not too many charities could claim this? Of course this approach does mean you may not have heard of them before - but that's only because they are out there on the streets making a difference and doing what they should be doing!
Its bloody cold outside right now - so if you had even toyed with the notion of buying Phil a birthday present - do please save yourself the trouble of going out shopping, just log onto http://www.justgiving.com and type Broadway into the Find A Charity box. Any contribution at all would be greatly appreciated both by Phil, by Broadway and most importantly by the people being looked after out on the streets of London.
Phil (and I) are really looking forward to having you with us on the 5th. The roulette tables have just been organised and we're shipping in a proper dancefloor for the basement. 007 himself is arriving by parachute!
Lots a love
Phil and Fiona
