Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Sophie Beth was born on the 11th June 2011.

Her heart stopped as she was born and thanks to the determination and skill of the staff at UHNS, they managed to resucitate her at 12 minutes.

Due to her lack of oxygen throughout the ordeal, she was placed on a cooling matress which lowers the bodys core temperature and reduces the risk of brain trauma or any further damage occuring.

Thankfully we were in the best place. Sophie was placed on the matress and cooled within 1 hour!!

Three weeks later, she seems to be a normal healthy, bouncing baby girl. Obviously there may be complications later down the road, but for now we all feel very very lucky.

SO, how do you thank someone for what they have done and how do you try to make a difference?

Well that's why you're here. Our aim is to raise £11000 (roughly the cost of a cooling matress). We were lucky that the UHNS charity had bought a matress for Sophie to use. Whilst in the hospital we were talking to another couple from Birmingham who had had a similar experience with their baby and had been transfered to the UHNS.

Every penny helps. Small amounts from lots of people!

There will be multiple fundraisers going on over the next few months across the midlands, I hope to see you there.

August Update.

Wow!!! Thanks for all your support, really pleased with the way it's going and everyone has been so kind.

A little update on Sophie, she has had her first check with the follow up team and so far she is exactly where she needs to be. She is now smiling and seems keen to make as much goo goo gaa gaa noises as she possibly can!!

Massive thanks to the Sentinal for their article on Sophie, hopefully the publicity will help.

Keep up the good work all, you are all brill!

December update.

Sophie has had her second check up with the Doc and he is really pleased with her progress. I can't believe we have been so lucky and we really do owe a huge debt of gratitude to the staff who save her life and all the thousands of people who have donated money to the UHNS charity, allowing them to buy the equipment that helped save her life.

I know times are tough, but every penny counts so please dig in to your pockets and find a few quid to help us save more little ones. Please gift aid if you can, it makes a big difference.

Merry Christmas to you all, thanks again for your support.

February update.

Soph has cut her first couple of teeth at the bottom and there's another about to poke out of the top gum!

Her progress is staggering, she is on the move now and I'm certain we are only weeks away from having to "babyproof" the whole house! She is a very happy little baby and life is an absolute pleasure having her around.

The charity has raised over £3k now including gift aid and we are so grateful to all those who have helped raise such a fantastic figure. I will be continuing to try and raise money in 2012.
