I work as a Specialist Nurse in Organ Donation in South Wales and the main part of my role is to talk to the family of a patient who is approaching the end of their life and may be able to donate their organs.  This is a very emotional time for the family, having not long recieved the devastating news that their loved one is going to die.  The families that consent to donation make a courageous decision at a time of such personal grief that will result in saving the lives of people across the UK they will never meet.

The Donor Family Network has 2 main aims: 

       The support to donor families, regardless of when donation happened or in what circumstances, and

       The promotion of the Organ and Tissue Donation

In July, Jo and I will be cycling from Aberystwyth in Mid West Wales to every acute hospital in the region in raise awareness for organ donation.  This will take in 12 hospital, over 5 days, 330 miles and an average of 65 miles per day.
