This page has been set up to raise money in memory of our friend Phil Ashton who whilst walking on Helvellyn fell to his untimely death. Phil was a ‘unique character’ and is remembered by all who knew him for his laugh and sense of humour. Phil has left behind his wife Caroline and young son Thomas, his Mum and Dad, Brothers, Sister, Nephews, Nieces and as the Church service showed, hundreds and hundreds of friends. What we plan to do is follow the route selected by Phil, his Friends and Family on the morning of December 30th 2010. We are all aware we are not climbing Everest or Kilimanjaro but we are walking the most challenging route (over both Striding and Swirral Edge) and it is for a very good cause. During a recent charity fundraising event at the over £130 was raised which will start us off. We will be donating money raised via this website to his wife’s chosen charity which is Patterdale Mountain Rescue. http://www.mountainrescue.org.uk/ Anyone wishing not to use this site and donate cash can do so via Dave Quarry (landlord of the Bull & Dog – (Clock Face Rd, Saint Helens, Merseyside WA9 4JY)) or any of the other walkers in person. (Neil Lamb, Dave Quarry, Mike Dean, Ste Dyas, Martyn Griffiths and Gareth Jones). Any cash donated will be given to Caroline for her to decide how she would like it donated or even put in a trust for Thomas should she wish.
