<p>So, the date is set...the number of days when 4 people can make hair moustaches and mono-brows from my hair are numbered...the time has come to cut off my hair. As of today it is 73cm long and on 2nd September I will be cutting it back to about 5cm. I would like to take this as an opportunity to raise awareness for 2 great charities.</p> <p>First, the hair itself will be donated to The Little Princess Trust (http://www.littleprincesses.org.uk/) who provide real hair wigs to young people suffering from hair loss due to cancer treatements.</p> <p>Second, I want to take this opportunity to raise awareness and funds for Phunzira (http://www.phunzira.co.uk/), and specifically their medical 'branch' - a rural clinic at Ruarwe. I will be heading out to the clinic in January 2012 for my clinical elective and I will be able to see and report back first hand on the great work that this rural clinic is doing.The funds raised through this page will go towards paying for a medical boat for the clinic at Ruarwe on the edge of northern Lake Malawi. At present Ruarwe has no roads so the only way to access the area is by motor boat, canoe, ferry or foot. In the event that a critically ill patient arrives at the clinic at the moment, their chances of getting to the next hospital or larger clinic are slim, the medical boat will provide transportation for such patients as well as allowing for supplies to be brought from those larger medical centres to the small clinic at Ruarwe.</p> <p>Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
