I work for Animal Kingdom Foundation, Inc. (AKF), an animal welfare group in the Philippines that is affiliated to IWCT-UK. This page is meant to gather support from animal lovers and create awareness regarding the hapless state of the Philippine dogs that are caught in the wicked and horrific dog meat trade.
AKF is renting a land that it converted into a rescue and rehabilitation center for the rescued dogs. It is now home to more than 600 dogs that mostly came from the southern part of the country, all recovered while being taken to the illegal slaughterhouses in the north. The horrific conditions that these dogs were in during transit; some expire due to being piled-up on by other restrained dogs, is a sight that as horrible as the stench of death that explodes once the tightly closed vehicles are opened.
Some of the dogs that AKF recovers are pregnant that is why we have puppies, "Miracle Puppies" we call them, that are just simply a source of joy at the center. There are those who bore the scars caused by open-ended cans, strings and wires stuffed and wounded around their snouts. The dead dogs are burried at AKF's pet cemetery (picture of the cross) while the rehabilitated ones are rehomed.
