About me
My name is Phill, I have recently turned 30 and for the last 8 years have not looked after myself properly, I decided about 24 months ago that this had to change; I have been successful over this period in loosing over 5 stone, by simply changing my lifestyle.
I have decided that I need a goal to help me achieve a reasonable weight and I thought why not sign up to a charity challenge, why not go for a once in a life time challenge.
Reading through all the different Treks and Cycle rides, it was differcult to decide what I wanted to do, I don't think walking is my thing, Parachuting? Mmm, I love to fly, but without a plane, I don't know, Like my legs too much, I have always wanted to visit the Pyramids of Egypt so why not take along a bike and cycle the Nile.
I have read about The National Autistic Society and decided that this Charity deserves the support, due to the excellent work that they do.
What is Autism
Autism is a spectrum condition occurring in varying degrees of severity. It is characterised by a triad of impairments: difficulties forming social relationships, problems with verbal and non-verbal communication and the development of strong narrow obsessional interests
Sponsor me now and help the estimated 535,000 people with autism in the UK today by supporting The National Autistic Society's services including the Autism Helpline, Advocacy for Education service, Befriending scheme, Parent to Parent support service and help! Programme.
Autism is a life-long development disability that affects the way a person communicates and relates to people around them. Children and adults with autism are unable to relate to others in a meaningful way. For example, skills that we take for granted like the ability to understand tone of voice or simple facial gestures, are very hard to comprehend for people with autism.
The condition comes in varying degrees of severity and in some cases a person with autism may also have an additional mental or physical disability such as schizophrenia or blindness. There is also a condition called Asperger syndrome which is a form of autism used to describe people at the higher functioning end of the autistic spectrum.
The National Autistic Society is the UK’s foremost organisation for people with autism and those who care for them, spearheading national and international initiatives and providing a strong voice for autism. The organisation works in many areas to help people with autism live with as much independence as possible.
The society provides a national telephone helpline, schools and adult centres, books and leaflets, specialist diagnosis, local support groups, regional volunteers, a supported employment service for individuals with autism and works closely with local authorities to ensure the needs of individuals with autism are addressed. It also conducts research into causes and methods of dealing with the condition, and works closely with a number of leading universities in this area.
Why should you sponsor me?
Sponsoring me will give me the support and motivation to see this through to the end. The Cycle ride is 400km (approx 250 miles) over 5 days; this together with the soaring temperatures will be a tough challenge.
I believe that this will be tough, though it is possible to complete.
If you would like more information or would like to sponsor me then call me or email me. 0774 896 6579 or sponsor@letmeasp.co.uk or even donate on line and the charity could get an extra 28% if you are a UK Tax payer by clicking on the sponsor now button. When do you start?
Training has already started, this is the really tough part, and getting up early in the morning and completing 20km before you go to work is a stain. I am now pushing to get to within the recommended guidelines.
The actual Cycle ride takes place towards the end of February 2007 and into March.
When do you need the sponsor money by?
Due to strict guidelines set out by the charity, I have to have raised and collected £2500 by 10th December 2006, this has to be sent to them by this date, If I am unable to successfully gather this amount my place will not be safe. This is why I need all the help I can get.
How do I help?
