Greatwood combines equine welfare with educating people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) through Animal Assisted Intervention (AAI), using former racehorses. Greatwood operates a ‘Cycle of Rehabilitation and Change’: horses helping people ⟳ people helping horses.

Story

Legendary eventer (and nutter) Phoebe Buckley is riding in the charity race at Newbury Racecourse on the 1st March 2014, having made her return to race riding in the point to point at Barbury in December 2013.

Phoebe needs to raise £2,500 (and also find a horse to ride, so if anyone has something that is over 4 years old and has run at least twice under rules, and wouldn't be averse to lending it to a bat-sh*t crazy jockey, please get in touch...!) so please donate as little or as much as you can afford! It'd be amazing if Phoebe could get over the target, so please give generously.

Greatwood is the only organisation that uses ex-racehorses to educate disadvantaged children and young adults with special educational needs (SEN)

Greatwood is the only racehorse welfare charity that does not have a criteria for entry, nor turn away a horse at risk, in danger of neglect, or that is suffering.

Greatwood is a Wiltshire Council accredited alternative provider of education.

Greatwood delivers pioneering education programmes teaching emotional literacy and life skills via interaction with rescued and rehabilitated ex-racehorses

The race: 1m5f at Newbury Racecourse, 1st March 2014. Riders by invitation, maximum of 12 riders.
