Mongol Rally
The Mongol Rally is an annual rally put on by The Adventurists http://mongolrally.theadventurists.com
This year’s rally starts July 23, 2011 and it’s about charity, adventure and making the world less boring. Amazingly, 500 massively ill-suited 1-liter cars will launch from three cities in Europe, congregate in the Czech Republic, then set off on a six week race to the heart of Mongolia where the cars will be sold to benefit charity. The drivers raise money, as well as donate their cars once they reach Mongolia.
The Challenge
There are no rules, no set route, no assistance on the road. Teams must drive ridiculously ill-suited 1 litre cars across several countries covering over 15, 000 kilometres in order to donate their car, their time and the money they raised. Over 500 cars depart London, Spain, Italy simultaneously. One of the main goals of The Adventurists is to raise vast bundles of cash for some awesome charities. So far the Mongol Rally alone has raised over £1.5 million pounds for charity. As a team on the Mongol Rally the Pink Solero Team must raise £1000 for charity at least £500 of which goes to the official Rally charity.
The current official Charity is the Christina Noble Children's Foundation who do awesome work looking after orphans and street children in the capital Ulaanbaatar. The Pink Solero Team have chosen to donate any extra funds raised to The Japanese Red Cross, (http://www.jrc.or.jp/english/index.html) to support a cause very dear to our team members’ hearts: The Japan Great Eastern Earthquake Disaster Relief.
