New update added below (09/05)

The Pinley Rugby Football Club, Coventry is attempting to play its part in helping those who have made it their responsibility to look after us but for what ever reason they now need our help. The men and women of the British Armed Forces serving around the globe do a fantastic job despite being in some of the most inhospitable places and facing some extremely hostile environments.

Members of the Pinley family are planning to walk from the centre spot of the Wyken Croft pitch in Coventry to the centre spot at Twickenham in time for the Annual Army vs Navy Rugby match. The walk will kick off on Monday 2nd May 2011 and finish on Saturday 7th May 2011 having walked approx 125 miles.

We will be assisted on the trek by various Rugby clubs along the way who have agreed to help us by using the facilities, camping on they grounds and even attempting some fundraising of their own to assist our efforts.

The men and women of the Armed Forces are true hero's at time putting others lives infront of their own and in some cases paying the ultimate price with the loss of their own. Others suffer life altering injuries or disabilities from their actions and it is these brave people that we aim to help.

I'm sure a lot of us know someone in the Forces or at the very least heard the now frequent stories in the media of the latest death or life changing story.

Please take the time to look through this page and Please Please find it in your heart to make a donation as everylittle helps.

UPDATE 07/03/11

The boys took their first and no doubt tentative steps yesterday as they completed a 12 mile practice walk starting at the Pinley ground and taking a stroll around Ansty before heading back. By all accounts this was enjoyed by all and so far I've not heard about anyone trying to back out!!!!!

Another practice is being planned and now people have got a taste of what to expect whos knows what suprises could be instore next?

UPDATE 14/04/11

Well there are now only 18 days left until the walk begins the guys have completed a further two practice walks since the last update with the most recent being just under 16 miles. Still no signs of anyone wanting to back out..

The planning has been intense and everyone is keen to assist in anyway possible.

Confirmed to open the walk: The Lord Mayor of Coventry, Pete Rossborough (Chairman Coventry Rugby Club), Darren Garforth (England International). We are still waiting the results of a few other potentials.

There are also a number of Companies that have lent support to the walk and with out them it would not have been possible to have made completed this task a Massive Thanks to all those that have contributed.

Along the way we have been graciously supported by clubs who have pulled out all the stops including providing areas for us to sleep, feeding everyone involved and throwing their own fundraising evenings. All at their own expense so again a Massive Thanks to them aswell.

The route has been planned out as follows:

Day 1 - Wyken Croft (Coventry) to Southam 18.5 miles

Day 2 - Southam to Towcester 20 miles

Day 3 - Towcester to Fenny Stratford (Milton Keynes) 20.25 miles

Day 4 - Fenny Stratford to RAF Halton 20 miles

Day 5 - RAF Halton to Uxbridge 23 miles

Day 6 - Uxbridge to Twickenham and the Help for Heros Army vs Navy Matchday 13 miles.

We had always hoped to once we reach Twickenham finish the walk on a high by being allowed onto the pitch. This has now been supported by the RFU who have stated those who have taken part can complete the walk by finishing on the pitch before the start of the main event.

UPDATE 05/05

Well we're 2 and a half days into the walk the blisters are growing and the morale is high. Donations on route have been good and everyone is getting behind the cause. A big thank you has to go to the members of Southam and Towcestrians Rugby clubs who have been fantastic putting up with us providing food and laughs.

Its not so easy to update this site due to the lack of internet but regular updates are on facebook.
