Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

On the 13th June Josh and I completed a bike race with fellow HYT workers up in the Kamuli district. We started at our 1V4 project at Makoka primary school and cycled past all of our other current HYT projects; St Kaloli Primary, Namaganda Primary school, Kinawampere Primary and then back to Makoka.

The race was split into 2 sections; junior and senior groups, with the juniors setting off a good 15 minutes before in the hope that all would finish around the same time. It was a tough route in the Ugandan heat and rain with hill after hill, occasionally we would come over the top of a hill to find the welcome sight of an HYT official at a check point where we could have a quick break for water.

Everyone succeeded and managed to complete the course; the level of support from the schools and the villagers was astounding and I (Pippa) was especially proud to be the only girl participating and yet still managing to beat a few workers along the way!

We are nearing the end of our time here in Uganda as volunteers for HYT, and we organised this bike race in the hope that we would be able to raise enough money to make a difference for our new 1V5 project which will be commencing in the near future. We would like to leave something behind so that our time out here is not forgotten and so we are hoping to raise enough money to build a water tank.

This page is not just for myself and Josh but is also on behalf of all of the HYT workers who participated in yesterdays gruelling race and still came out smiling at the end of it!

  Thankyou to everyone!
