I would like to introduce you to a wonderful institution that could potentially be of great interest to you. Founded in 1996 by a group of university students in Medellin, Colombia, Poder Joven Foundation has a preventative program that currently helps 130 at-risk children find an alternative to living in the streets (gamines) or becoming part of the armed conflict in the city. Poder Joven not only provides these needed children with a safe place to go before and after school, but also with much needed medical care, dental care, psychological counseling, homework help, esteem- building activities, food, and most importantly love.
