Story
My Dear friends,
Thank you once again for visiting my justgiving page.
For the past few years I have been raising money for charity through sporting challenges. All of which so far have been half marathons: The great north run twice and the royal parks half marathon once. Being a horse geek and one who loves a challenge: I have always wanted an opportunity to ride in a flat race and I thought that this would be a once in a lifetime experience. The fact that Cancer Macmillan is such a fantastic charity and I would be fundraising for them makes me even more determined to do this wonderful challenge. There isn’t one person in the world that has not been affected by cancer in some way or another, whether it be friends or family. A person very dear to me at the moment is suffering from this disease and I will be racing for her and all of her family as well as my grandfather who is still fighting the disease five years later.
The details: The race takes place on 15th June at York racecourse. It is the last race of the Macmillan charity race day at 17.50.

The race itself is:
One mile and one furlong
Flag Start
Jockeys to source my own mount. (Thanks to Jacqueline Coward for assisting here)
Minimum weight is 11st 7lbs (This includes all gear and saddle: So really I need to be 11st. Diet is now in full swing!)
My horsey history: I grew up with ponies, and did the typical pony club things and then gave up when I was 17. I had a 7 year break where I simply did not ride at all and 3 years ago I took it back up with the help of Paddy a ShireX who unfortunately as much as he'd love to, cannot help me on my quest to jockeyrisation.
Me, myself and an interesting fact: I thought I could make the Guinness book of world records here so I googled to see if I was the worlds tallest female jockey (to be) however Louise Moeller from Denmark at 6'1 has beaten me by an inch! Tallness is not a strong point for a jockey I'm told and I guess because of firstly weight and secondly balance. Neither of which I'm that confident with. Well I will not let this first hurdle trip me up....
So my training commences please check facebook for updates on training and how I am getting on. It's going to be a tough ride! (pun totally intended).
Thanks and Best Wishes
Polly
