Marathon du Medoc · 12 September 2009

Our vision is that patients with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses in our area can choose how and where they want to be cared for towards the end of life. We provide 24/7 responsive Hospice at Home care and support for all the family during the illness and through bereavement.

Story

Thank you, kind folk for taking 5 min to look at my JustGiving page.

As some of you already know I have entered myself into my first ever marathon, a challenge I have always wanted to embark on, and I thought, seeing as I am putting myself through this I might as well try and raise a bit for charity!

With the Marathon du Medoc, I am setting myself two challenges, hopefully one of them will inspire you to donate money to this exceedingly worthwhile charity!

First challenge, I have to run 26miles in under 6 hours, feat enough if you think this time last year I was struggling with 10km!  The Medoc is run through the vineyards of Bordeaux and those kind French folk will try and tempt me to stop at one of the 23 wine stops on route, and here lies my second challenge (no, not to sample all 23 wines!!) but to not stop at the first stop and forget to start again, and being a Rogerson, this will be a harder task than the 26 miles………!

In memory of a friend who enjoyed a run and appreciated a good glass of “vin rouge” (although I don’t know if he ever attempted the two together…), I have chosen a cancer charity.  Iain Rennie is a charity which offers specialist and supportive care and advice for patients with cancer and other life threatening illnesses in their homes. They also aim to help the relatives and those carers close to the patient during the illness and bereavement period. Unfortunately, all of us will be effected by this rotten disease at some point in our lives, be it directly or indirectly, so if you think you couldn’t run 26 miles and/or don’t have the will power to ignore free French wine, on 23 different occasions, then please sponsor me  I know times are tough, so any loose change you find down the back of the sofa would be appreciated, by me, and by the charity.

Please rest assured that the money will be going to the charity and not to pay for mine (or my support teams) wine consumption, the target would have several more zero’s on it if it was!!!!!!
