Baxters Loch Ness Marathon 2012 · 30 September 2012 ·

Refuge opened the world’s first refuge in West London in 1971. We support thousands of women & children every day, experiencing domestic and sexual violence, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, stalking, trafficking, prostitution & so-called ‘honour’ based violence.

Story

Hello & thanks for visiting my page!

When I put 'do a marathon' on my #40Before40 list it was a bit of a joke, now its 3 terrifying months away and the competitive gene has kicked in- if not the actual doing some training one ;)

But enough about me & on to the reasons you should support Refuge & the work they do…

One woman in four experiences domestic violence at some point in her life

Two women are killed each week by a current or former partner

Domestic violence accounts for almost a quarter of all violent crime

In 90% of domestic violence incidents in family households, children are in the same or next room

On average a woman will be assaulted by her partner or ex-partner 35 times before reporting it to the police

Refuge is committed to a world where domestic violence is not tolerated and where women and children can live in safety. Their ethos is about empowerment and supporting women and children to rebuild their lives free from violence and fear.

Thanks for donating – it will make a difference
