Hello, thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page :)

 

My name is Poppy Sherborneand on the 14th October I'm heading to Tamil Nadu in South India for 10 weeks to volunteer for a youth-led development agency called Restless Development. I was matched with this specific programme through a government-funded scheme called International Citizenship service (ICS),which is designed to help young people make a difference to global poverty.

 

Restless developments mission is to place this large and energetic generation at the forefront of development and change. They believe that we should all start seeing young people as the SOLUTION rather than thePROBLEMand I agree. Restless Development have three main aims:

 

1. Civic Partnership

 

2. Livelihoods and employment

 

3. Sexual Health and rights

 

By following these aims I will be helping young people in rural communities and youth centres reach their full potential.

 

These aims are NOT imposed by western ideas but by the joint work off UK volunteers (me) and National volunteers from India, who will carry on with the work once we are gone. The work we do will be varied as Restless Development use a needs-based approach. This means we help the community to development by giving them what they need to break out of the circle of poverty. This could be anything from CV workshops, informal education or simply a lesson on how to wash your hands correctly to prevent the spread of disease. To find out more please visit:

This challenge is something I've always wanted to do. I understand I can never change the world but I going to give it my best shot anyway! I am so nervous yet so excited to be going to such vibrant developing country to give and learn from others. However you have to be aware this is NO holiday, I’ll be living basically, NO M&S, NO Macaroons and NO lycra. I'm not allowed to drink and I have to have more jabs than I have fingers... and I actually can't wait!
