Skills for Developments objective is in the development of skills as a means of empowering disempowered people and alleviating poverty. We believe in grass root empowerment and that for any sustainable solution, the solution and resolution must originate from the community itself.

Story

I take pride in letting you know that I have been raising funds for a charity called “Skills for Development” for the past year. I am raising money to help Skills for Development to provide vocational training related to agriculture to poverty stricken farmers in a rural, mid African country called Cameroon.

The training is aimed primarily at the women rice farmers; and in this community it is the women who are responsible for providing for their dependents and their children. With the money the women make from their rice farms, they pay for food, education and medicines for their children. This is in a community where children cannot afford to eat every day let alone go to school.

The training provided by Skills for Development is beginning to help these women to move out of extreme poverty; because through this training the women have been able to increase yields by as much as double in places.

My idea of raising funds for this cause is to run marathons across the UK and Europe. Last year I ran three half marathons (Warwick, Geneva & Birmingham) and raised over 1000 GBP. We were able to cover travel costs for the professionals. The successful execution of their activities has equipped the farmers in more than just one way. The charity now aims to train a wider range of farmers this year.

I feel extremely motivated to see the fruits of my initiatives and am now ready for my 1st bike ride from London to Windsor. I gain immense satisfaction from whatever little I am being able to do. For I’ve seen what difference it can make.

I humbly request you all to please come forth and contribute in whichever way you can. If each one of us could part with even a pound, we could together help them grow kilos of grains and happiness. Every penny counts.
