Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We cant believe that this will be our 5th Push For Prems. We are a small group of Prem Parents who organised this sponsored walk/pram push back in 2010 and every year we have gone from strength to strength. We want to thank everyone for helping us raise so much in the past years, we are so grateful.

This year we will be raising money for a vital piece of equipment for the Trevor Mann Baby Unit. The equipment is called The Cerebral Function Monitor. If it is suspected that the new born could have had some sort of brain trauma during birth,  this monitor will be used to establish if this is the case so the baby can get immediate treatment. Using the monitor cuts down the ‘diagnosis’ time leading to the baby being treated quicker. The cost of ths will be £20,000!! So we need as much help as we can to achieve this.

The Trevor Mann Baby Unit, a place so close to many of our hearts. I write this holding back the tears as i remember our journey of having a premature baby, we have met so many wonderful people along our way who have shared the highs and the almighty lows of our experience and their own; we cried, we laughed and we lived in fear of our babies lives.

We owe so much to the staff, they have saved our babies lives, kept our spirits up when our babies were undergoing major surgery, and supported those of us that have lost babies through prematurity. These little ones are miracles and really have been through so much, numerous bowel operations, hernia operations, laser eye surgery, lumbar punctures, day to day blood tests, constant canulars, countless amount of blood transfusions and fighting of constant infections week after week! Crazy to imagine when you could fit them in the palm of your hand! Some of these babies were born as small as 1lb.

We will be meeting outside The Royal Sussex County Hospital at 10am on Sunday 29th June and taking part in a Push for Prem walk with our babies and children to Hove Lagoon where we will meet for a picnic (please bring your own food). Some of us will be walking in memory of a little one that didn't make it home from hospital. After the picnic at Hove Lagoon we will be letting off balloons in memory of these children. If you have sadly lost a little one you are welcome to bring a balloon on the day to release as well.

Everyone is welcome to join us - you don't have to have a prem baby. The more people who take part in this sponsored walk the more money we will raise. We ask for a small fee of £2 for all adults who are taking part and £1 for children. This will go towards our final amount raised. Last year many of the dads dressed up as nurses which really helped in raising so much money so we will be asking if dads can take part in doing the same this year!

The day is a fantastic way of celebrating how far our little miracles have come and to remember those that were lost and to meet lots of amazing parents and friends along the way.

Some of us are walking in memory of the following children:

Georgia Kimberly Woolmer Robertson born 2/07/2009 lived for 8 hours weighing a tiny 1lb, Ezma Demir born 2/08/2008 lived for 54 minutes weighing 1lb 6oz, Alfie Robert Da Silva born 23/07/2009 lived 13 days. Lily-Rose Kyriacos born sleeping 17/01/2007 weighing 1lb 2oz. Charlie Jack Gates 1/10/2006 - 4/10/2006. Rosa Mae Coku born 1/06/2009 at 16.40 hrs and lived for 1hour 20 minutes weighing 420 grammes.

So please dig deep and donate! It means so much to so many of us. Thank you, Catherine, Toni, Chantal, Wendy, Kirsty, Nicola and John x x
