Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our QlikView JustGiving page.

The 300 km long Vätternrundan is the largest recreational bicycle ride in the world and we are attempting to finish it in 12-13 hours. In 2010 an estimated 20 000 cyclists will participate. The ride takes place in Motala, Sweden, June 18-19.

We are raising money for HOPEHIV who support children and young people in sub-Saharan Africa affected by HIV/AIDS.  We believe they have the potential to make Africa’s future one of hope, rather than despair.

An example is the Simukai project in Zimbabwe. Many orphans run to the streets in order to escape from abuse or neglect.  Simukai Child Protection has worked with street children for over seven years and has unique insight into the specific reasons why children run away.  Simukai is the one of the only programmes of this kind in Mutare, Zimbabwe’s third largest city. HOPEHIV is partnering with Simukai to develop rights-based interventions to tackle the problems at home before the children leave.  This involves educating teachers, guardians and the wider community, as well as children themselves.  HOPEHIV and Simukai also provide rehabilitation support and vocational training to help street children who have returned home to stay there.
