Story
In June this year, I will be attempting the National 3 Peaks Challenge in support of the Yorkshire Cancer Centre. The challenge involves climbing the 3 highest peaks in Great Britain in under 24 hours. Which means that in the time spent climbing the 3 peaks, approximately 910 more people will have been diagnosed with cancer in the UK.
So why am I climbing to fundraise for a cancer charity?
Because cancer still claims 1 in 3 lives in the UK, and also becuase far too many people in my family have suffered or lost their lives as a result of the disease. Although I am lucky by not having been diagnosed myself, I can tell you that seeing someone that you love, suffer and ultimately lose their life becuase of cancer, is an awful experience. As I'm sure many of you will already know.
And why the Yorkshire Cancer Centre exactly?
Firstly because it was the chosen charity by the Leeds RAG group I am climbing for, but also because it’s a fantastic, meaningful and passionate organization. The institute provides supplementary benefits to approximately 2000 cancer sufferers and their families in the Yorkshire region. These include: specialist medical equipment, research and development and patient ‘home comforts.’
By making a donation, you will help the centre to develop new research and treatments to ensure more people survive cancer through prevention, early detection/diagnosis and treatment/aftercare; all of which will improve the lives of cancer sufferers and their families.
Climbing the National 3 Peaks is my way of making a stand against cancer, by supporting a charity which really improves the lives of people impacted. It's also in loving memory of my Auntie Shobha, and for all those people in my family who have suffered and beaten, and are continuing to fight cancer.
I would really appreciate any donations, big or small, to give cancer the middle finger and would like to thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!!
