 The L'Arche Kent community is one of 9 L'Arche communities in the UK where adults with and without learning disabilities live and work together sharing their lives in many different ways. L'Arche Kent is looking to fundraise £45,000 to build a downstairs bedroom and bathroom in the Rainbow for Mary.

Why?

Mary has lived in the L'Arche Kent community for over 23 years. For the last 15 years Mary's home has been at the Rainbow, a large Edwardian house not far from Canterbury city centre. 

Mary lives at the Rainbow with her friends Peter, Yvonne, Denise and Damien as well as with the assistants who have chosen to come and share their lives with her for differing lengths of time. (Please click on video to see a slide-show of Mary).

In recent months those who live with Mary at the Rainbow have become aware that Mary is starting to find the physical effort of climbing the stairs to her bedroom and bathroom more difficult due to her increasing physical frailty. 

The L'Arche Kent community is now looking to have alterations (which includes a small extension at the back of the house) made on the ground floor at the Rainbow so that Mary can have a downstairs bedroom and specially adapted bathroom. This is essential work that will enable Mary to stay in her home for the years ahead.

The cost of the alterations amounts to £45,000 and already we have  received donations of over £6,000 .
