Living on the Breadline · 13 November 2017

We are the Helen Bamber Foundation. A Human Rights Charity. We give survivors of trafficking and torture the strength to move on. With an all encompassing care for the whole journey, survivors have the dignity, strength and freedom to live their lives to the fullest.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page! I am a member of Creative Survival, a group of Civil Service Fast Streamers who are raising money and awareness for two charities that help the most dispossessed and vulnerable people in our society: Glass Door Homeless Charity and the Helen Bamber Foundation.

FIRST CHALLENGE - LIVING BELOW THE BREADLINE

As part of these efforts, we will all be taking on the "living below the breadline" challenge where, from 6th - 10th November, we will have to find ways to feed ourselves with just £1 a day for 5 days. The purpose of this challenge is to raise awareness of the difficulties many face when living in poverty as it is estimated that those below the poverty line live on just £1 a day or in many cases, nothing at all.

Many of you will have personally experienced how "hangry" I can get from time to time, so know this is going to be an extremely difficult challenge for me! But that's the point. This is an experience far too many people face not as a challenge or a choice but as a necessity.

THE CHARITY

I will be raising money for the Helen Bamber Foundation, which provides practical, psychological and legal assistance to the victims of and those vulnerable to some of the gravest human rights violations, including people trafficking and other forms of abuse. Often directly affected by conflict, the livelihoods of the survivors that the HBF supports are typically dangerous, unstable and affected by high risks of poverty, ill health and trauma. The Foundation focuses on early intervention, effective medical assessment and therapies, especially for asylum seekers and refugees, legal support. The objective of this support is to provide survivors with the support, skills and resilience to rebuild their lives.

THE TEAM

Please visit our team JustGiving page ‘Creative Survival’ where you can see the total we have raised so far as well as the work my team members are doing. We also have a website which you can visit at: https://creativesurvivalfund.wordpress.com/. Here you can find out more about us and read our blog which has regular updates
on the work we are doing and our individual experiences.

Any donations would be greatly appreciated, not only as moral support for potentially my grumpiest week yet, but to make a real difference for those who rely on the Helen Bamber Foundation as a life line.
