Our first event is on April 23rd 2011. 4 dedicated runners will race in the Balmoral 10k in order to raise money for the small, local Indian charity called 'Shantidhara' (www.shantidhara.org, http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2261280635). Here is a short description of what they do:

Shantidhara Social Service Society is a small NGO located in south of India in the district of Andhra Pradesh, in Visakhapatnam working with rural and tribal communities for their education, health and agriculture development since 1998 with special emphasis on Children and Women. The current project, 'Shantidhara Children Hostel Project', was implemented in 2004. They started with 5 children and are now 34. These children come from different castes and religions and they all live together in a Hostel during school term. The aim of the project is to provide different tribes and families of at least one literate person in order to prevent others to take advantage of them and their lands. They all live in a 2 bedroom rented house and as the children grow they are finding it more and more difficult to live in the present conditions. In order to expand and provide more spacious room for the children, the money is needed.'
