Story

Thank you so much to everyone who's donated money. So far we've raised well over my target of £500 pounds together - even more with the gift aid.

I completed the full 50 miles on Sunday in lovely weather in 3 hours and 30 minutes. It was dry but very windy which made some of the flat bits feel like they were uphill!

It was a surprise, not knowing the exact route until the day to find that the half way point was my home town of Southam but at least I knew what I was in for climbing Napton Hill at around 22 miles (I knew there could nothing that bad to follow anyway!).

For those who want the stats my cycle computer registered 50.51 miles, a ride time of 3:24:16 which make to be an average speed of 14.8mph. The other six minutes were for water stops! I obviously wasn't pushing myself on the downhill sections though, my top speed was only 34.1mph.

My knees feel a bit weak now (the day after) but other than that I seem to have fared very well.

Thanks again!

I'm taking on a 50 mile ride through the Warwickshire countryside on 4th October - hopefully it's a relatively flat bit.

BBC Children in Need is an important charity to me, not least because the BBC is an important part of my life, as are my children.

The ride is actually being organised by the British Heart Foundation, another worthy cause so please feel free to donate to them if you'd rather. I've arranged a page for that here.

Keep your fingers crossed for the weather for me and I'll let you know how I get on.

Thanks,

Richard
