<p>Over the last year I have seen a close friend being diagnosed with cancer. It was a real shock as it never crossed my mind the possibility of it affecting someone close. Fortunately the news turned out to be positive and he is now on the road to recovery. </p>

<p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px 'Times New Roman';">Lyndale is a Knowsley based Cancer Support Centre in Liverpool, that offers help and support to those directly affected by cancer, their carers, families and friends who provide them the support. Each person who uses the centre will be refered, from hereiafter,as a member. The support is povided both in group sessions and / or through one to one as necessary. The centre has no paid staff and is run purely by a group of volunteers who bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise for the benefits of the members. In addition to the personal support the centre also provides various other actvities and forums to assist members through these difficult times and are delivered at varying frequencies as detailed below. These include, </p>

<p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px 'Times New Roman';"><strong>Daily </strong> - Sessions of free complimentary therapies every weekday including Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Reiki, Indian Head massage and hand and leg message. These therapies are very popular and are considered to be very benificial. </p>

<p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px 'Times New Roman';">Lyndale is committed to working in partnership with NHS, local PCTs and other healthcare professionals and agencies in both Knowsley and throughout Merseyside as necessary. The centre is in a unique position to have such significant exposure to cancer patients their carers and family and friends. The membership base is both significant large as well as diverse enough in relation to age groups and cancer types to enable some research into the care and services that Cancer patients receive in the local catchment area. </p>

The aim is to assess the quality of support provided by various healthcare agencies and related support services in this area. Objectives include to </p>

<p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px 'Times New Roman';">Undertake ongoing research that is necessary to establish the level of support and services cancer patients their family and friends have and continue to receive from their GP Practices and other health care agencies in the Knowsley through the key stages of their Cancer journey. </p>
