Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

6th May

Only a week to go and I'll be on my bike. I'm a bit worried as all my efforts went into marathon training and I've neglected the biking! I guess it'll be ok even if I have a bit of a numb rear at the end! I'm so thrilled by the money that so many of you have donated. I would love to reach my target of £2000 before the end of the month - so if you're new to this page, go on - dig deep and see what you can give! Families so need the help that Addaction can give. Let's do it!

29TH April

I can't believe that a week has passed since the marathon. Now I'm beginning to prepare for the 40k bike ride I signed up to a while ago. It's a bit real now it's only 2 weeks away. I'm just hoping that the weather warms and dries up a bit to inspire me to get on my bike! I'm so grateful to everyone who has been kind enough to donate to my cause. It has made such a difference to me. Thanks again xx

23rd April

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my page again. I can't believe that after all those weeks and months of preparation, it's all over. As eachmile went by I thought of the money raised, of the people you are helping, of my parents and brother. I do ache today and glad that I'm not at work, but am so grateful that I did it - to help others who are suffering. Thank you to you all too. I am so grateful xx

20th April

Thank you for taking the time to have a look at this page - well, in 48 hours time, I should be a couple of hours into the marathon. I can't believe it is almost here. Fund-raising has been very uplifting and I've had so much support from so many people with varying reasons for supporting the charity. Addaction plays such an important role in the lives of families touched by addiction. Addiction is not a respecter of persons - it can hit anyone at any time and the effects are often devastating. By supporting this charity, they can work to rebuild lives blighted by addiction. I won't be quick, but I'll get to the end when I'll be so grateful for every penny raised and that will be thanks to you.

15th April

Thanks for taking the time again to have a look at this page. Today I completed the Newham 10k. It was a lovely event - great atmosphere and lots of encouragement. An inspiration to us all was the 101 year old who not only ran today, but is also doing the London Marathon next week!!

I'm so grateful to everyone who has donated, both on and off line. I would love to get to the half-way mark of £1000 by next Sunday - so if you can help in any way to achieve this, I'd be so grateful. I'm very grateful to fellow Addaction runners who have built a really supportive network. And thanks to my family who are behind me all the way! Thanks to you all again. You are wonderful!

March 18th

Another Sunday - another run completed! Four weeks till the next official run in Newham - a week before the London Marathon. I managed to take over 10 minutes off my last 10k time so I'm quite pleased about that. I'm really grateful for all the donations that I've received. It makes those last couple of miles bearable while I'm wondering what on earth I'm doing there. Knowing that I'm raising money to help other families makes it all worthwhile. Thanks again - and keep your fingers crossed that I keep the injuries at bay. Thanks again! xx

MARCH 12TH

What an amazing day yesterday was! Met up with fellow Addaction runner, Paul, which was great! The weather was super - sun shone all day and I knocked 10 minutes off my PB from 3 years ago!

It was inspiring to see so many people raising money for their chosen causes. Please dig deep as Addaction is a cause close to my family's heart. Check out the rest of my page - or look at their website. Thanks very much!

March 9th - The fun begins!

This week-end sees the first of the runs that I'm committed to for Addaction. It's the half-marathon at Silverstone - meaning that there's only 6 weeks to go till the big one! I've kept more or less to my training schedule now covering around 70 miles a week. Next week it's the 10k in Ashford that was called off in February, thanks to the snow. After that, I'm not doind anything official till 15th April which is a 10k in Newham and which will be my tapering time. I'm very grateful to everyone who's donated, both on and off-line. Remembering how our family suffered makes me want to help others in a similar situation.

Thanks again everyone! Update after 10k next week.

Reaching the age of 60 in 2012, has made me want to do something positive. Reading about the work of Addaction, I realised that this was a cause close to my heart and I hope that in some small way, I can help.

My brother, Russell, died at the age of 31 after years of drug taking. The effect on the whole family - and especially my parents - was beyond words. Through Addaction positive steps are taken to help families who are also suffering. I would so happy to help to save others from the agonies that we went through.

So - to raise money for this wonderful cause I am involved in the following - half-marathon in March, 10k in April PLUS the London Marathon on 22nd April! Also - a 40k bike ride in May, bike and run event with my son and daughter in June, 10k in July and triathlon in August! PLEASE be generous in your giving to help other families. And keep your fingers crossed that I remain injury and illness free!

So far the training is on schedule. I'm not likely to threaten elite runners but I'll be really happy to complete the various courses!! I think I'm built for distance, not speed!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
