Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We (Alex, Justin and Amy) will be running in the 10k race as a tribute to our mum Rosie who has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer (Becky Simpson, who has been good friends with Amy since primary school, will be running in support of Rosie too. Josh Hunter will also be running in support of his Auntie Rosie).

Mum retired from her career as a dietitian just a few years ago and a few months ago was planning various trips abroad. She was generally looking forward to a long and happy retirement, something that she truly deserves. Therefore, this devastating diagnosis has come as a terrible shock to us all.

After being given this awful news mum spent 2 weeks in hospital undergoing various tests and treatments. She is still trying to take in the enormity of what she has been told and is also still suffering with extreme shortness of breath and is not at all ready for home. Therefore, she was admitted to Wakefield Hospice a week ago. Here she is receiving physio to improve her mobility and breathing and her medication is being monitored and personalised so that she feels as well as possible and is able to come home soon.

We know that mum is very thankful and grateful for the help she is getting at Wakefield Hospice and at a time when we are really quite helpless we decided that raising some funds for the hospice is one small thing that we can do.

We know that you all get many requests for sponsor money but if you could donate just a few pounds to this worthy cause we would be extremely grateful. You never know when you and your family may need the services of the Wakefield Hospice, so it is important to raise as many funds as possible so that they can continue with their valuable work.

The overriding message of running this race is simply to say 'we love you mum, don't give up the fight'.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
