Thanks for taking the time to visit my Marble Jar!
A lot of you know me, some of you don't! 4 years ago when I started into triathlon my Dad seemed a tad 'odd' (well just a bit more 'left of the centre' than usual)......ultimately, the best bloke in the world has been diagnosed with Alzheimers, he, at that time, was only 67 years old. If I'm honest, I've tried to put the whole thing out of my mind, only visiting the loss of one of my best friends briefly, I say loss, he's till here thankfully, but he suffers and recognises what is happening. I despise that, it's undeserved, indiscriminate and, at a time when he and my Mum should of started a well earned retirement, someone upstairs thought they'd play havoc with his wiring.
It's a devastating illness - particularly when the man was lively, innovative, go getting and, more than anything, active and inspirational (if a little off the wall at times;).
I love my Dad. Simple. I hate the disease, I hate what it's done to him, my Mum, family. I'm lucky, I'm fit, able to compete and enjoy in triathlon and many other events - to date, I've not used my sporting endeavours to the advantage of others and the things I'm unable to change no matter how often I visit it in my mind. On route to the Outlaw Ironman I'll attempt a few stand alone marathons (now done :), an ultra distance run, and following the Outlaw in July 2011, I may just do another IM distance (for fun)!
I'll work hard for your marbles. Promise.
thanks guys. Rach xxxx
