Story
I cannot believe the 6 weeks are over already! Teaching at Mustafa Sabodo Secondary School was a wonderful experience and I have so many great memories of the kids and the other volunteers I went with. We had an interesting first day in school, being given 10 minutes to prepare to teach an 80 minute lesson as we were thrown into our busy schedule. I really enjoyed teaching my 3 Form IV (16-22 year olds) classes of around 60 students, I made the most of having lots of qualified teachers in the group to learn lots of fun ways to make the lessons as interactive as possible. Alongside the maths lessons we also ran a maths challenge to find our school champions and answered all the questions the kids had about us and England. The science stream class were particularly keen to make the most of having a teacher by asking me lots of maths questions in my free lessons. I'm really hopeful that this November they will do better in their exams than the last year group did and more than 20 of them will pass their maths exam.

Exciting new development!!!
So there are 12 of us (a mix of students, PGCE Students, and new teachers) going out to Tanzania, 6 to Morogoro and now 6 (including me) will be heading to Mtwara in Southern Tanzanian to pilot the program in 2 new schools (and assist a teacher training college which wants to begin training maths and science teachers). These new schools are really desperate for teachers with one of them having just one maths teacher for 700 pupils!
Not long to go now, so excited!

Hi guys,
This summer I'm heading back out to Tanzania to teach in an underprivileged school in Morogoro. The aim is to work alongside the African teachers to pass on our enthusiasm for maths to the students and use modern and interactive teaching methods to boost their maths ability. For the more able students we are also able to give them insights into university level maths and run a math club for homework help.
Last time I was teaching up to A-level maths to classes of between 40 and 80 kids. Often we had to make up lessons on the spot if teachers were absent or if the students asked for help on something inparticular.
Any money you can donate would be greatly appreciated to keep the program going, the main corporate sponsors are encouraged to give even more by the fundraising that we do!
Thank you =)
