May be this is a mid life crisis, but we felt that this was the year to take on a challenge. Now, to many people, cycling from one end of the country to the other is a challenge, and walking the length of the Ridgeway National Trail is a walk in the park, but 87 miles over a 7 day period is further than we have walked in a week, so it is challenge enough!

We have both lived within a few miles of the Ridgeway for most of our lives, but not taken enough opportunity to really enjoy the beautiful countryside it offers. Departing from Overton in Wiltshire on Thursday 19th July, we can enjoy chalk downland for 3 days, with the last 4 days spent in the beautiful Chiltern Hills, arriving at Ivinghoe Beacon on Wednesday 25th July.

This is not only a physical challenge - it is also a fundraising challenge, raising essential funds for Abingdon RDA. The Group's purpose built yard is home to 12 hard working horses and ponies, who provide both adults and children with disabilities the chance to ride, delivering benefits to health and wellbeing, while allowing riders to set their own goals and challenges.

Although supported by some amazing voluntary helpers and instructors, the running costs for the Group continue to rise, with the annual estimate now close to £70,000. The Group is self funding, so we very much hope that funds raised during the Ridgeway Challenge 2012 will go a long way to easing the financial pressure on Group this year.
