Machu Picchu Expedition 2015 · 16 October 2015 to 25 October 2015 ·

Challenge Cancer UK was established to help and support those affected by cancer. Furthermore, it will look to support individuals, groups, and both charitable and non-charitable organisations in the areas of cancer awareness, prevention, research, treatment, care, and support.

Story

My lovely boss Sarah and myself are embarking on the challenge of trekking Machu Picchu, something neither of us had thought about until recently when we decided to say yes to this amazing opportunity.

Since losing my Mother to breast cancer at the age of 10, raising money to help such an important cause has always been close to my heart. As we all know there are so many horrible kinds of cancer that affect all different ages so I have decided to raise money on behalf of Challenge Cancer who support a number of varying cancer charities. The 2015 beneficiaries chosen by Challenge Cancer are: The Christie Charitable Fund, Prostate Cancer UK, Macmillian Cancer Support, Anthony Nolan, The Eve Appeal, Cancer Research, CLIC Sargent for children with cancer, Marie Curie, Melanoma Focus and Teenage Cancer Trust. More info on these charites can be found here: http://www.challengecanceruk.org/beneficiaries.php

The challenge itself allows us to spend 8 days in the ancient Inca world visiting the Inca ruins which has remained largely unchanged for more than 500 years. We will have the chance to see glacial blue lakes, the snowy peaks of Mounts Veronica, Chicon and Pumahaunca and meet the local Andean people who call the Scared Valley their home. Whilst climbing to a height of 4600m! It truly is a once in a lifetime experience that we cannot wait to take part in. More info on the trek itself can be found here: https://www.charitychallenge.com/pdf/Trek_to_Machu_Picchu_Itinerary_updated.pdf

We are paying our own travel expenses so the money that you donate will go directly to Challenge Cancer UK. My aim is to raise at least £3000 by August and much more (hopefully) in the lead up to the trek in October! Fingers crossed I can beat that target with everyone's help & even more fingers crossed I actually complete the trek with Sarah's help..

So thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
