Story
Thanks for taking a minute to read my page.
I am running the Madrid marathon for The Simon Community who are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year. This charity works tirelessly to reach out to street homeless people in London. The Simon Community runs entirely on donations and receives no government funding whatsoever.
The Simon Community are very experienced at making a little money go a long way. To give an example, it costs just £21 per week for a guest to stay in the winter shelter for one week. That £21 pays for a warm sleeping bag, an evening meal and a breakfast as well as the rent costs met by the charity. £21 to most of us might be a takeaway or some other treat that we might consider sacrificing to give someone a week indoors away from the danger and hostility of life outside.
The winter shelter is finished for this year and summer is on the way, but the cold weather will soon come back around and it would be fantastic if we could raise some money to bring some more people inside during the cold weather when no one should have to sleep on the streets.
On the 28th April when I am running 26 miles through the streets of Madrid, feeling sorry for myself and moaning about the heat I will think about those people who live outside in the rain and the cold, then I'll shut up and get it done!
