Getting treatment for a cleft lip and palate isn't always easy - but it should be. A simple operation at 6 months old only takes 1.5 hours - 3 hours and it can transform a child's life, so that they can live a completely normal life.
CLEFT is a charity which aims to research the unanswered problems in improving care for children born with cleft lip and palate. They aim to push the boundaries of conventional treatment by funding research into improving operating techniques and by looking at the underlying reasons for cleft deformities.
I have always wanted to have a go at the National 3 Peaks Challenge. 26 miles of rough, rocky and hilly terrain, in 24 hours, over 3 of the largest peaks in the UK, in Scotland, England and Wales. It's not just the climbing - it's getting between the 3 mountains fast enough to make it in the time limit. Many people say this is the ultimate British challenge - and I want to find out if I'm up to the job!!! It starts at 4pm, climbing Ben Nevis in the dark. Then you climb Scafell Pike early morning, and finally, Snowdon - ending up in beautiful Wales. We're doing this on the 17th and 18th July 2010.
Following on from the success I had last year running a half marathon and raising £405 for CLEFT, I am therefore keen to repeat this. I'm also taking 13 other people from my work, and organising the whole thing!!! Sounds mad, but I'm really excited, and would love it if you would sponsor me, even if only a small amount. If you don't want to do it online, I'm also open to paper money, coins and cheques which I will log as "offline donations" and send through to CLEFT.
