Story

Thanks for visiting my JustGiving Page! I’m cycling to support the amazing work that UHCW Charity do. It would be great if you could donate and share my Page so I can raise as much as possible to help them support local people who are ill to ensure they receive world class care. Thank you.

I am doing this with my very own miracle baby Ruan, who how now just turned 4 and started school thanks to the support and care given to him and us by the wonderful staff at UHCW neo-natal unit.

Ruan was born at 29 weeks by emergency c section following a routine appointment with my consultant where she found his heart beat to be far to slow.  I was rushed over to Coventry with blue lights flashing and informed while they did a scan that they would need to get baby out immediately.  Unfortunately I was on my own as Neil was on Rugby Tour with Princethorpe in South Africa.  Ruan was born at 12.12pm on Friday 12th August 2011 weighing in at 3lb 12oz (75th percentile for his gestation). My mum was the first to see him, as I was still coming round from the general anaesthetic, and the lovely consultant Mrs Blake explained to her that he was very vulnerable and we would have to take each day at a time.  Ruan spent 10 days in intensive care before being moved through to the high dependency unit and then on to the special care, spending a total of 7 weeks in hospital.  The staff were amazing, and work so incredibly hard, their dedication and commitment is commendable.  Through out our  journey we had highs and lows, steps forwards and steps back with infections but we were always given support and had everything explained to us in detail. Ruan struggled with his temperature in special care and  sustained his temperature out of his incubator for the first time on Thursday 28th September and that afternoon they asked if we would like to stay over night with him so we could prepare for taking him home so we did and he came home the next day so we could start our family life together. Such special times.
