I'm so excited!!!
On February 9th I'll be travelling to Uganda again with a team of about 30, for a 2 week visit organised by friends of the UgandAid charity (www.ugandaid.com). We will be based in Jinja town which is situated in the East of the country, at the Source of the Nile at the top of Lake Victoria.
You'll know from last year how much great work was done and funded by the visiting team (You raised £1600 on this page, so I've set a new target), and how much the Ugandan people have a joy for life which is humbling and rewarding to be part of.
This year we will be working on two projects; these are community development in Kanyogoga-Nsenge village, and the finishing work and decoration of a third room in the new nursery school facility we worked on last year at Nile Vocational Institute in Njeru. (If you want to find out more about the great work NVI does please check out the Ugandaid website).
NVI run a Community Based Training (CBT) programme in surrounding villages, of which Kanyogoga-Nsenge is one. The community has 170 households and a few of those have been selected by the community themselves for specific projects due to the need.
Labour will be provided by NVI Building and Construction students, the villagers themselves and the UgandAid team.
The money raised on this justgiving page will go directly to the following projects:
Ssebalu Yunice This is a young man of 25years and disabled. Yunice moves with the aid of two crutches. (see photo)
He has had the formal education up to senior four on a sponsorship of an NGO (Lillian Foundation) but could not continue due to age limit policy of the organization.
He currently stays with his parents who are aged and wishes that he could have a house of his own and if possible be helped to do a technical training course at NVI.
Namusoke Euphrance This is an old woman, a widow of about 75 years and staying alone. She sold part of her land and built herself a small house but doesn’t have a latrine.
Masiga Steven He is crippled and 58years old. He is childless and stays alone in wrecked structure. He lives near Akello Joice and who also does not have a latrine. (see photos)
Akello Joice She was married to Steven ‘s brother who abandoned her and left her with four children. She does not have a latrine and could share the latrine with Steven if provided.
Namusisi Amina This woman is a widow 55years old. Unfortunately her so called house caught fire. She has no house and stays with eight grand children of her two daughters who passed away. These children are between 4-14 years.
She has enclosed the room that remained with old iron sheets, this is where she lives and made a makeshift shade for the children. This is actually a shack!
Jessica Nekesa She is really old and not sure of her age but could be between 80-90 years. She has had six operations which has affected her health. She stays with a daughter of about 65 years who is a widow too with 8 orphans. The house they live in is in really poor condition. (see photo)
Kamuhanda He is a 43 year old widower living with HIV/AIDS. His wife died 2 years ago leaving him with 3 children. Two of these children stay with him while one stays with the grandparent. He is very weak, unemployed and gets some of his medication with St. Francis Health Centre. His main need is a pit latrine.
Balikowa Henry This is the man for whom we constructed a brick house last February. However, Balikowa now needs a pit latrine. He is still weak and unable to fend for himself.
The more money raised, the more building can be done. If you would like to donate some money, please give sooner rather than later so we can plan how many projects can be worked on.
Thanks
Rachel x
