Walk Together 2019
Campaign by Bowel Cancer UK (RCN 1071038)
Walk Together is our five mile sponsored walk to bring people together so that they can show their support for those undergoing treatment, remember loved ones we have lost and help stop bowel cancer. Its for people of all ages and abilities.

Story

On the 27th June 2019, Andrew Godfrey lost his battle. Andy was our Cousin and played a part in all our lives. His personality was unique - he was funny, witty and so amazingly kind.

Andy leaves behind many who loved him and will miss him, including a son who's first birthday was just two weeks after Andy died.

Just under 12 months ago, Andy was diagnosed with Stage 4 Bowel Cancer. By the time it was caught, the Bowel Cancer had already spread to the liver, lymph nodes and bone, and in the end they were simply unable to stop it spreading further.  Bowel Cancer is a treatable disease if its caught soon enough, but as he was so young it was the last thing anyone was looking for. The average age to be diagnosed with Bowel cancer is 64, Andy was 38.

The #nevertootoung campaign from Bowel Cancer UK seeks to raise awareness of the symptoms in younger people, and to lobby for better diagnoses and treatment within the NHS.  If we can prevent just one more person dying from this disease, then that will be a start.
