Ralph gardened all his life and it was his great love. He spent as much time as possible out of doors working on the garden in Cottesmore, and for many years had been self-sufficient. He became especially interested in daffodils and exhibited in Oakham, Birmingham and occasionally in London. He asked for the simplest send off but wanted to help gardeners and those who were devoted to gardens.
