Story

Hi!

Welcome to my Just Giving page!

As I'm sure you all already know, Macmillan cancer support are an amazing charity and I'm thrilled that they've taken me on to be part of the team for Run to the Beat 2013.

The last few years my exercise routine has pretty much consited of running for the bus (and even then, most of the time I'd be lazy and just wait for the next one!) and not a whole lot else. But all that is about to change, as I embark on an epic challenge of going from couch potato to running 13.1 miles in 12 weeks!

So why the change of heart? Busted spring in the sofa? No. As many of you already know, my dad passed away in Februrary of last year after a long battle with not just heart disease, but mutiple myeloma also.

I'd always known about Macmillan and the work they do, in fact I even worked as an office temp in their Embankment HQ for a few weeks when I was 16. But I never really paid much attention to how important the work they do really is, because, after all, I didn't have cancer and neither did any of my loved ones.

And then one day my family and I needed their help.

I saw first hand the amazing work they do and why they so desperately need charitable donations from people like me and you. The support they gave me and my family was invaluble.

From providing a carer for a few hours a week to give my mother and I some precious time off from looking after my dad, to helping arrange having a hospital bed at home so he didn't have to spend the last few weeks of his life on a ward.

After my dad passed away I decided I wanted to do give something back in return for that support.

And that's where you fine people come in. I've lit the touch paper and now I need you to help carry the torch! You're donations mean the world to me and the thought of hitting the fundraising target (and hopefully smashing it) knowing that it will help Macmillan to deliver the same level of support to other familes dealing with cancer, is what will keep me going over the next 12 weeks to run harder, longer and faster than ever before.

So please, give generously and together, lets do something amazing!
