This is a fund-raising plea to those of you who fondly remember Ray Holdford, Assistant Webmaster at the Cambridge site Spring 2007 to January 2010.
Ray suffered from depression and we learned earlier this year that Ray took his own life. Those of us that knew him wanted to find some fitting tribute, and as he ran in the Chariots of Fire for the Medi teams, and took photos for us another time, we thought this year’s run was the time to do something. So as an aside to the main Chariots of Fire fundraising if we can raise some money through my leg of the relay, it will be a fitting gesture. Call it Ray’s Round – though he would have laughed if we called it Ray’s Leg.
Depression Alliance http://www.depressionalliance.org/ is a UK charity for people with depression. It works to relieve and prevent this treatable condition by providing information, support and understanding to those who are affected by it. It also campaigns to raise awareness amongst the general public about the realities of depression.
Ray was a lovely bloke. His work and incredibly helpful attitude was much appreciated by those whom he helped with articles and intranet pages. He had a good sense of humour and a technically creative streak. “Look OK, Feel Crap” is the tag line of one depression awareness charity.
