Kilimanjaro Summit Climb · 3 February 2010

Far too many of us have felt the pain of losing someone we love. With your donations, we power groundbreaking cardiovascular research to save and improve lives, bring hope to families, and keep hearts beating across the UK.

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

To climb Mt Kilimanjaro will take approximately 10 days and we will aim to reach the highest point in Africa at well over 19,000ft. The conditions at the summit are harsh to say the least, with temperatures dropping to -40*C and a 50% fall in oxygen levels. For someone who spends the majority of my time sitting at my desk which is situated approximately 65ft above sea level this climb represents somewhat of a serious challenge.

So you may well be asking yourself why...  and in recent weeks, as the training increases, I have been asking myself the very same question. However, there is a very good reason to take on such a major challenge and that is to raise as much money as possible for a charity that personally means a great deal to me. Having lost my father at a young age to genetic heart disease I know firsthand the effect this can have on a family. I also know that my experience is far too common but through the great advancements in this field of medicine things are changing. Through the amazing work of the British Heart Foundation lives are being saved and the underlying reasons for genetic heart disease are being treated and in many cases eradicated.

This would not be possible without dedication and the right levels of investment into research. So without wishing to impose on you too much I wanted to ask for your support as I take on Mt Kilimanjaro and try to raise as much money as possible for an extremely good cause.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Many thanks again for your support...

Raymond
