Rebecca & Danielle HW2014

Hadrians Wall · 3 May 2014
Rebecca and Danielle have chosen to complete Hadrians Wall 86 miles of walking over 5 days for the Ronald MacDonald House. We have chosen this charity because we are aware of a number of families in Chorley that have been supported and help by this wonderful charity during extremely difficult and upsetting times.
Our friends Mike Lister and Vic Snape have allowed us to share her story which gives a real insight to the Charity;
Here is Grace Lister's story;
Grace is now 3 years old and has congenital heart disease. Grace’s parents were told on their 20 week anti natal scan that it was unlikely Grace would survive any longer than the next 4 days, however she continued to grow without further complications, and was born full term.
Grace was taken straight into special care and monitored closely with the fabulous cardiology team at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. Grace then underwent her first open heart surgery at the age of 3 months, and her second open heart surgery just after her first birthday.
Grace is currently waiting for a cathatarision in April before undergoing her third open heart surgery this summer.
Grace is such a complex case, however we have such a fantastic team of Specialists, Cardiologists and Surgeons with us at Alder Hey, and also the Ronald Macdonald House. When Grace has been in hospital, this has been our home from home; they accommodated us for a full month through Grace's first surgery, and have done on numerous occasions since.
Without the Ronald Macdonald House, families of very sick and terminal ill children
wouldn't be able to spend, quality and valuable time with them.
It was such a comfort for us that we were able to stay in house and we could be with Grace within seconds. The house really does make all the difference, and it makes such a difficult time seem that little bit easier.
We hope this gives more of an insight to this charity that helps so many families through extremely difficult and worrying times.
