Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I lost my beautiful nephew to neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma is an aggressive childhood cancer. It is the most common cancer diagnosed in the first year of life and causes around 15% of childhood cancer deaths. Approximately 100 new cases of neuroblastoma are diagnosed every year in the UK. The long term survival rate for babies and children with high risk neuroblastoma is less than 40% —around half the average survival rate for childhood cancers.
Children with advanced neuroblastoma can receive chemotherapy, surgery, radiation therapy, stem cell transplant and immunotherapy. Different treatments are being trialled in Europe—including the UK—and the USA. However, not all children can join UK trials to get the potentially life-saving treatment they need. And some of the trials, especially for relapsed neuroblastoma, are only available abroad.
That’s why I’m supporting the Neuroblastoma Alliance UK because they help children and families affected by neuroblastoma by providing financial assistance for children's treatment abroad. The charity supports families affected by the disease and funds research into this aggressive childhood cancer.
If children do not meet the criteria to participate in a UK trial, or need a treatment that is only available outside the UK, they may have to travel outside the UK to receive treatment. The Neuroblastoma Alliance funds their treatment abroad which is why I’m doing what I can to help.
