Story

Thanks for reading my story, as anyone who knows me well will know I'm not the fitness of people so this 5k run will be a challenge for me.

What is endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a medical condition that occurs when the lining of the uterus, called the endometrium, grows in other places, such as the fallopian tubes, ovaries or along the pelvis. When that lining breaks down, like the regular lining in the uterus that produces the menstruation, it has nowhere to go. This causes cysts, heavy periods, severe cramps and even infertility.

Here's a short video on an insight into someone's life who suffers from the condition.

Why am I doing this run?

Endometriosis 100% doesn't have the awareness it should have ! I bet some of you reading this have just learnt what it is by reading what I wrote above yes? Some people have heard of it but just think it's a bad period and it's over exaggerated? Well I can tell you the main reason I'm doing this is because I have lived first hand with a dear friend of mine who suffers from this awful illness . There was days she was in so much pain she would be bed bound for 2/3 weeks at a time, in so much pain she was on numerous pain killers and getting painkillers strong enough what they give to cancer patients as an example to show you how painful this condition can be . There's days watching someone rocking on a floor in pain and curled in a ball because it won't go away even after pain killers , not being able to sleep because of the pain and not being able to keep a secure job because of the time you need to take of due to the illness and not being able to attend university. It literally affects every aspect of your whole day to day living, and never knowing when it's going to come there would be days we would be out to eat and it would just hit her and we would have to leave to get her home. I can honesty say I wouldn't wish it upon anybody. I believe we need to raise the awareness so the government, employers and healthcare researchers can start taking this terminal illness more seriously and provide the care and assistance sufferers need! Thanks for reading and thanks for any contribution that can be made ! I will assure I update you all on my progress thanks !
