Last October my mum was cruelly diagnosed with Mouth and neck cancer. At present she is gracefully recovering from 5 months of extreme treatment and operations. Her beautiful smile has never left her face throughout the whole ordeal. She is so strong and brave and to say how proud I am of her would be an understatement. She is an inspiration to everyone.
Myself, some friends and family are participating in the 3 Yorkshire Peaks challenge on April 30th 2011. The aim is to complete the 25 mile circular walk, visiting the three highest peaks in Yorkshire, Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, in under 12 hours. If my mum can emerge from this course of treatment with a smile on her face, then I'm sure that we can endure 12 hours of pain over 3 Yorkshire peaks. We are hoping to raise money for The Daisy Appeal.
The Daisy Appeal is a local charity established to help improve treatment and research opportunities in a variety of common diseases, most notably cancer and heart disease. Having successfully raised £8 million to enable the construction of a medical research centre at Castle Hill in 2008, the Daisy Appeal has now moved onto phase 2 of the appeal and are looking to raise a further £4.5 million to purchase PET-CT scanning equipment.
To sponsor us please go to http://www.justgiving.com/Rebecca-Megson and donate whatever you can. It will really and truly enable the Daisy Appeal to continue with the fantastic research and studies they are carrying out each day to save the lives of people like my mum.
