On June 11th 2010, I will be climbing to the summit of Kilimanjaro to raise money for Vision Africa - Give a Child a Future. (www.vision-africa.org). Kilimanjaro stands at an impressive 5896m (19,341ft), is the highest mountain in Africa and amongst the tallest freestanding mountains in the world. The tough ‘Machame’ route will see me trek from the south through dense tropical rainforest all the way up to the snow capped summit called ’Uhuru Peak’ (Swahili for ‘freedom’) where I will stand at the highest point on the African Continent!
Vision Africa was started by my Grandparents during their retirement in September 2001 and since then I have been able to watch and be a part of its growth. Vision Africa now has 14 projects all over Kenya, dedicated to helping orphaned and destitute children and teenagers. With projects varying from Children's Homes to school sponsorship, feeding programmes, building projects, an abandoned baby unit, two special needs schools and even the running of a football tournament in Kibera where 119 teams participate(!), it is fair to say that Vision Africa is doing some amazing work!
Vision Africa in one way or another touches the lives of approximately 5000 children!!!
I have recently spent a year with Vision Africa in Kenya and have seen first hand where and how the organisation spends its funds; I can guarantee that it really does go to those who need it most. When you literally have nothing, even the smallest of donation will make the biggest difference in the life of a child.
I am self funding this trip to Kilimanjaro, so every penny that you donate will go 100% to Vision Africa. So please please please ... any help you can give, in helping me to raise as much money as possible will be greatly appreciated, not just by me, but by Vision Africa and most importantly, the children who need it most!
Thank you for your support! :)
