I have recently been selected to go on a gap year to South Africa with the gap year charity Project Trust. After a week long selection course on the Isle of Coll, where I faced several challenges to check my ability for a year abroad.

Project Trust is the UK's original Gap Year provider. Established in 1967, with over 40 years experience and have sent over 6000 volunteers to over 60 countries.Project Trust is registered as a Charity in Scotland (SCO25668). Specialising in sending 17-19 year old school leavers overseas for long term volunteering placements of 8 or 12 months in 23 countries in Africa, Asia and the Americas.

My project is focused on social care but with an element of teaching. In a rural village where I'll be working with young children, arranging activities and taking resposibility for their day-to-day care aswell as supporting them emotionally and physically.

To fund this life changing experience, I need to fundraise £5,400 by June 2013. I aim to raise this money in several ways such as sponsored swims and backpacks. This money will be spent on the flights, accomodation and support whilst I am abroad.
