I've always said that running 26 miles is nothing more than Stupid...and I still think that...although...sometimes in your life, something makes you realise that you should put yourself completely out of your comfort zone to raise money for something or someone really important!
So on the 6th November...I will be running 26 miles in the New York Marathon for my Mum.
While I am not capable of making a difference to this dreaded disease, I have decided to raise money to help support those affected by cancer, where all donations received can make a significant difference: The Burton Cancer Patient Fund.
The fund was set up in 1990 following an initial donation from Ernest
Irons to improve services for cancer patients at Burton.
In September 2004 thanks to the generosity of local people, a new Cancer unit was built from charitable funds which incorporates a Chemotherapy Unit, clinic rooms, offices and appropriate storage - creating a dedicated space where patients receive care and treatment in comfortable surroundings.
Further examples of how the fund has helped/is helping people with cancer are as follows:
Equipment - All essential equipment is provided by the NHS, however, if specialised items are felt necessary to benefit patients, requests can be made to the BCPF committee for approval.
Aromatherapy service - this service is not provided by the NHS but is greatly appreciated by our patients to enable Them to relax during and after treatment. This service is also available to family members.
Patient Grants - when patients are struggling financially a grant can be approved to help with travel expenses/utility bills/clothing etc.
All money donated will be given to charity. I will covering all my expenses for the marathon.
Training is going well, I'm already up to 18 miles.... if you see me running around the streets....give me a shout or a pip on the horn for a bit of encouragement.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
