My name is Rejhan Sylejmani and I am on a journey to raise funds for the Fostering Network, which is the leading charity for everyone involved in foster care. Every day over 51.000 children in the are looked after by foster carers as they are unable to stay with their own parents. Many have been abused or neglected. They may have a disability which their parents struggle to cope with. Foster care provides these vulnerable children with the support and stability they need, helping to ensure that their traumatic start in life does not lead to problems in adulthood.
Fostering network provide training, advice, information and support, and make sure the views of children and young people are heard and respected throughout the care system.
Reasons why I am doing this:
- to improve services for children and young people
- to raise the awareness of people that there is a shortage of foster carers (a deficit of 10.000)
- to encourage people to become foster carers and be the change they want to see in the world
- to learn and share experiences with other fellow, foster carers
- to make a difference
Reasons why I am not looking forward to doing this:
- I don’t like exercise,
- I don’t look forward to loosing several hours of sleep, each day to training, (as I love to sleep)
- I am worried I may be kidnapped in ,
- I am worried I may not raise the funds I am supposed to raise.
So as you go out and enjoy this summer…a picnic with your family and friends under the trees, holidays with your family or friends,…take a moment to think about the children who may not be able to do the same. Then, make a generous investment in the future of our children who for one reason or another have had to leave their homes and families, through no fault of their own.
